F1 driver Jean-Pierre Beltoise driving hard at the wheel of a Datsun 2000 - October 1968
October 1968 - For the November issue of the French car and bike racing magazine Champion, Matra F1 race driver Jean-Pierre Beltoise conducted a road test of a Solex Datsun 2000. The roadster was a rare site in France and less than a handful of low windshield/high windshield cars are believed to have been sold between 1967 and 1970. This is a shame, because Beltoise, who that year had placed second in the Monaco Grand Prix, really praised the Datsun - with a couple of provisos - concluding: "... the Datsun is a genuine sports car, astonishing in its balance and its performance. The excellent driving position, the admirable gearbox, and the flexible and powerful engine, can all make the sporting driver forget its outdated lines and its stiff rear suspension."
