The 1972 SCCA Runoffs

1972 Runoffs - Bob McQueen tracks Brian Fuerstenau. Ray Kaehler and Kirk Allegro, both racing Datsun 2000s, can be seen in the background. Kirk's car was also built by BRE when Kirk was an employee of Pete Brock.

Note:- Brian Fuerstenau sadly died in a plane crash in 1993, but he is remembered for his many excellent showings for Bob Tullius's Group 44.

Note - The above picture was also used by Graham Robson in his book "Triumph Spitfire & GT6" Osprey Classic Library, 1982 edition, page 179. About the picture the author says: "John McComb was competitive in 1972 with the Quaker State/British Leyland TR6. In 1973 he was less successful in the D Production GT6. Superfast Datsun chases" - Incorrect driver and also note the blanked out DATSUN lettering on the hood/bonnet. Mr Robson must have been hard up for a decent Triumph racing pic.
