1961 - The Datsun Fairlady 1200 Prototype
A rare colour photogragh of a left hand drive Fairlady 1200 Prototype, taken on Nissan's recenty built Oppama Proving Ground around the time of the Fairlady's official unveiling at the 1961 Tokyo Motor Show. When compared with the final production car, the prototype features many differences, a number of which can be seen here. Note the lack of vent windows, the larger bonnet/hood opening, lack of door handles, the lack of flares around the wheel openings in the wings/fenders and the different hub caps.
The production car would be launched to the public a year later, on 4 October 1962, with a 1500cc engine.
