ARRC, Road Atlanta 1970 - Fitzy hard on the brakes!
An unusual shot taken from the start-finish line early in the SCCA 1970 ARRC at Road Atlanta, featuring John McComb of Kansas in the BRE Datsun (83), and perennial south-east division champion Jim Fitzgerald in his Keith Hege-prepared Datsun 2000. At a place where both cars would normally be under full acceleration, something caused Jim to be slightly out of shape and hard on the brakes to avoid running into McComb on this lap. A few laps later, McComb retired when his axle broke at exactly the same place on the track - the weakened axle was possibly the cause of the near miss shown here.
Racing luck was with Fitzy. He went on to victory, achieving the title of 1970 National Champion in D Production.
