JANUARY 2005

Before disaster struck ...

1970 - Morton follows Peter Gregg (Porsche) and Bobby Rinzler (Chevron) - before disaster strikes ...

To amass points for the 240Z's entry ticket to the 1970 ARRC before the BRE 240Z hit the track, Peter Brock and his BRE team headed East to campaign the roadster in C Production. At VIR, in the most exciting of the out-of-region races, John Morton missed out by crashing out in the wet, but not before giving factory Porsche drivers Peter Gregg and Bruce Jennings a real scare. Before an exciting duel between Morton and eventual winner Gregg, Jim Fitzgerald was leading by some margin, showing the West Coast team how to get the best out of VIR. Fitzy had already won the D Production race in the wet, but hit a patch of oil laid down by a Lotus in the C Production race, missing out on what would have been a memorable double win.

For more information on BRE's trip east see the BRE pages.

Many thanks to Nick England of www.virhistory.com and Tucker Conley for the above image.
